The Dream Manager

27 03 2008

This weeks recommendation is Matthew Kelly’s, The Dream Manager

“This new breed of loyalty will be built on the principle of adding value.  An employee is responsible for adding value to the life of a company, and a company is responsible for adding value to the life of an employee.  This is the great unspoken contract that exists between all employees and employers.”  (pg. 143)

Whether it is a for-profit business or a church or another kind of non-profit, our responsibility as leaders in any organization is to add value to the people who work for/with us.  The point of this book is about managers taking a genuine interest in the dreams of the people they manage.  What an idea!  Could you imagine working in an environment where your manager actually took an interest in you moving towards your dreams.  How would you feel to go to work everyday and be encouraged to dream!  I really want to take this idea to heart.  Leadership isn’t about people serving the dreams of the leader.  Great leaders realize that their influence is about serving, building up and releasing the dreams in others.

Leaders let’s listen with open hearts… add value to those who follow us, by taking genuine interest in their dreams and how they are actually moving towards them.
