the influencer relationship

Leadership is a relationship. We often think of leadership as a job, a role, a title or an achievement.

Leadership is a relationship between an influencer and the influenced. As such it is something to be cultivated and cared for.

If you lead in an organization and you hire your team, your biggest obstacle as a leader to cultivating the relationship may be the money you pay them. In that the transfer of money between influencer and the influenced give the illusion that we have a shortcut through the necessities the relationship. Not only does it not give us any shortcut, in some ways it complicates the relationship.

The transfer of money is not intrinsically evil. The belief that by transference of wealth we have purchased anything in the relationship is evil.

Leaders build relationships. And if we must, we compensate
