credible enough to lead

Leadership is influence.

The very nature of leadership is the influence of people. Moving people from one place to another place. There is a bit of audacity in leadership. Who are you to step into my world and tell me that I should pick up from where I am comfortable and move to a new place. The very nature of leadership causes resistance. This is why in leadership relationships rule.

Relationship is not about intimacy, it is about credibility. If you have credibility we don’t need to be intimate for me to follow you. Credibility is established through vulnerability–revealing what is inside (the honesty, skills, visions, and passions).

If you want to earn the right to influence me, you must establish the relational credibility for me to follow you.
